Published article in the “Vegan” magazine

March 15, 2026 by Kerly Ilves

I am the most proud to announce that in the first issue of this years “Vegan” magazine, an article which I wrote as the board member of my new NGO Toit ei ole prügi (Food is not garbage) about the connection of the food waste and animal agriculture was published. I am super thankful and super blessed! I hope this is the first of many. I am so glad that “Vegan” magazine is open for my contribution.

Here is a quick peek to the article. I will publish the link once it is made available.

Behind the scenes taking photos of Eke for “Vegan” magazine

December 15, 2025 by Kerly Ilves

Here is how the notorious “Vegan” magazine cover was taken. But why the last issue of 2025 is notorious because it has photos on the front and at the back of the magazine. As the editor said: “the photos were so cute, so we wanted to use more of your photos.” Well, I am pleased! 🙂

Eke brought two bags of his handiwork and I laid them on the floor and then asked him to lay down on top of his creation – this is how the magic was done. Hehehee. 🙂

“Vegan” magazine double cover!

December 1, 2025 by Kerly Ilves

It has always been my dream to shoot a magazine cover. The end of 2025 was so blessed that it presented me such chance. And the best part is that I did a double cover, I mean the back was also my photo. It was one of the calmest, but one of the wildest photo shoots. I will share more what went on behind the scenes in the next post.

Here is a video showing the magazine and the inside photos what I took of Eke.

I will share the whole link of the magazine when it becomes available.

An article in Vegan magazine

November 1, 2025 by Kerly Ilves

I was extremely happy to have the opportunity to write about my experiences at the Toronto Vegetarian (actually vegan) Bank, where I volunteered for a year.

I got to do a short interview with Matthew Noble, who is running the food bank. It was great to get to know him better and find out that, besides being a wonderful human being who has dedicated his life to improving the lives of animals, he is engaged in many fields where he can apply the same work.

I am truly amazed that such an institution as a vegan food bank exists in this world. So blessed that I was able to be part of it and write about it in a vegan magazine. Thank you, Universe! 🙂

September vegan joy

September 1, 2023 by Kerly Ilves

The joy started at the end of August when the Toronto Animal Rights march took place. It was my first time participating in this small but powerful parade. It was very well organized, and those who were late to show up didn’t have to worry about missing the march, as there were speeches, music and intros to the walk presented. The whole march was powerful, and even the rain didn’t bring our mood down.

Then there was Veg TO Fest at Nathan Phillips Square. Lovely festival of wonderful vegan food, products, performances and speeches. It was a bit overwhelming to choose the food to eat. But we went by the style and the portion size and chose Ital Vital Rastarant’s ever-so-good container filled with all kinds of goodies. For the sweets we chose a selection of 6 small butter tarts, they were gluten-free and vegan, by…. They are not a vegan company, but we couldn’t resist trying their mouth-watering gluten-free treats.

Vegandale 2023

And at the end of September Vegandale took place by Polson Pier by Lake Ontario. Another event I had never been to, so it was pure joy for me to be part of it. It was very similar to the To Veg Fest, but it was a ticketed event, which doesn’t make sense really, and the food was quite similar. Except for some special guests from the States. We wanted to try something different and went with this wonderful Chicago-based Light Eye See. Their portions were huge and the food was so good and filling. Like wow! For the dessert, we chose cruffin and two cupcakes from The Big Vegan Cake. Wow, wow, wow. The best vegan baked goods we have bought in the city so far!

I am delighted that September brought all this attention to veganism, as in the summer too much is happening, people are out of the city and travelling. September in that sense is the best month to organize these events. And the weather held. Thanks for this, Toronto!
