Photo used as a landing page background

July 15, 2021 by Kerly Ilves

I found another photo of mine, which publishing rights I have sold to Tartu City Government a long time ago. First I wasn’t sure if it is really mine, but then I noticed my brother with whom I went out to take the photos by the new AHHAA Science Centre. And also, on the left of the page they have mentioned my name as a photographer. Yayyy!

Check out my photo at Invest In Estonia website. Thank you so much Invest in Estonia for publishing me!

Looking forward to finding more of my photos, as this seems to be such an exciting pastime 🙂

July sunset

July 1, 2021 by Kerly Ilves

As promised to keep the page more interesting I will change the front page photo monthly.

Beautiful June has turned into July.

“Balmy sunset” was taken in July in Hiiumaa, the second biggest island of Estonia. I was wandering near the sea and capturing the island’s summer beauty. I adore the golden hour. In photography, the golden hour is the period of daytime shortly after sunrise or before sunset, during which daylight is redder and softer than when the sun is higher in the sky.

It is nearly impossible and quite pointless to describe the feelings that my home country is creating in my heart when I experience the most magical time during summer golden hour. A little of it can be forwarded perhaps with this photo, but not quite. Being present is way better.

June butterfly

June 1, 2021 by Kerly Ilves

As promised to keep the page more interesting I will change the front page photo monthly.

Beautiful May has turned into June.

“Let me show you where you live” was not taken in June at all, but in early September. Butterflies are supposed to show you how your summer is going to be. If it is colorful then you will have an exciting and a very happening summer. Summer and butterflies go hand in hand for me.

I visited a nature trail in Southern Estonia and when leaving I took a look at the map by the entrance of the trail. The most colorful butterfly you can find in Estonia, Peacock butterfly, had landed on the map. Hence the name of the photo. Also this is such an unreal combination, something strong and manmade and a tiny and fragile butterfly on it. You are used seeing them flying in the nature setting, mostly having a green background, so this is something else.

Photos published on Montessori Mother

May 15, 2021 by Kerly Ilves

I did a long one day shoot for Montessori Mother ELC in Berlin a while ago. I have seen my photos used on their different platforms. Sometimes mentioned, sometimes not. Their website looks awesome and is getting a wonderful photo contribution at the moment. Check out yourself Montessori Mother ELC.

It was a fun experience, though there was a misunderstanding about the pay. I learned a lot from this mistake and will avoid this in the future.

I hope there are some other fun shoots like that in the near future.

May triptych

May 2, 2021 by Kerly Ilves

As promised to keep the page more interesting I will change the front page photo monthly.

Can’t believe a month has already passed. Time does fly!

“April showers bring May flowers” was taken in Taevaskoja, Estonia in April, 2015. Nature photography has been always been close to my heart though I have never done so good in it. I guess I have been a bit cluttered with my photography. Anyway the photo actually consists of three photos and is called triptych. It is means that work of art is divided into three sections, or three carved panels that are hinged together and can be folded shut or displayed open. It is mostly used in painting, but can be also applied in photography. What a great way to challenge yourself! Go and catch your own triptych.

Photo published on tartu.ee

May 1, 2021 by Kerly Ilves

I noticed my photo being used on www.tartu.ee to illustrate an article about the spring break in Estonia, which was a bit different than before.

Seeing these photos popping up is also quite interesting for me, because I have been able to share quite a large number of these photos with the local town government.

Looking forward for the next one.

The article can be found here.

Photo of Piret Noorhani in Maaleht

April 15, 2021 by Kerly Ilves

Last fall I took series of photos of Piret Noorhani, the Head Archivist of the Museum of Estonians in Abroad. She needed these for a magazine article, but I guess they came handy also for another interview in Maaleht. A newspaper in Estonia.

Look at that tiny mention in the lower left corner 😉

Welcome to my new website!

April 2, 2021 by Kerly Ilves

After, I can’t even count how many years of wanting to change my website, this finally happened! What a joy! Many people from many countries worked on this from Estonia to Poland, to Germany, and to Canada….but sometimes the help seems to be even closer when you expect. I am so thankful to Evelyn for making this ALWAYS a number one item of my annual new year’s resolution a reality.

At the same time I also started updating my daily photography blog called Imagine This. I have posted there every day since 2005 except for a year from March 2020 to March 2021. No need to state the obvious reason. I will continue posting, mostly photos from the past, but will try to throw in some new shots as well. I feel like daily blog is such a nice entity on its own and should be separate this quite static page.

If you ever make it here, please be so nice and send me an e-mail, especially if you have any comments or suggestons. As I would love to connect to people anywhere in the world, who appreciate photography or art or just like to check what’s going on with other people’s lives.

To keep it more interesting I will start changing the front page photo monthly.

“Waiting for a New World” was taken in Pisa, Italy on November 16th, 2019. I love street photography, though it is not my favourite genre, when I see something interesting, I feel it with every inch of my body. I guess my favourites are all kinds of free-form slogans and people doing something interesting. Isn’t this the whole idea of street photography anyway? 😛

In another note equality IS my favourite colour!

Portrait of Piret Noorhani and Jaak Kikas in Wikipedia

April 1, 2021 by Kerly Ilves

I took my first not credited portrait for a Wikipedia portrait in 2009. I am not sure why my name has been removed there, but you can see the photo here.

The most recent work was taking photos of Piret Noorhani for a newspaper and magazine article. I guess she liked the photo so much, that she decided to use it for her profile in Wikipedia. I am really happy and I like this shot a lot.

Thank you so much, Piret!
